ATS-Friendly Resume: Copy This Format (India Edition)

Most Indian job portals parse your resume before a human sees it. Here’s a simple ATS-safe format you can copy — and the mistakes that silently kill your application.
ATS isn’t a villain. It’s a filter. If your resume can’t be read by software, a human never gets a chance to love it.
In India, Naukri, company career portals, and many HR tools still choke on fancy columns, text boxes, icons, and PDF exports that look pretty but parse as garbage.
Use a single-column layout. Standard headings: Summary, Experience / Projects, Education, Skills. No tables for your work history. No skill bars. No sidebars.
Save as .docx or a clean PDF from Word/Google Docs — not a Canva export full of floating text.
Tip: Before you apply, copy-paste your resume into Notepad. If the order breaks, ATS will break too — fix the layout first.
Mirror keywords from the job description naturally. If the JD says “SQL” and “Power BI,” don’t hide them as “databases” and “dashboards” only.
Write dates clearly (Jun 2024 – Present). Spell out company names. Put your phone and email as plain text, not icons.
For freshers: Projects section with tech stack + what you built. For experienced: 3–5 bullet points per role with impact numbers where possible.
Then test it: paste your resume into a plain text editor. If it still reads in order, you’re mostly ATS-safe.
