Full-time vs Internship vs Contract: Which One Should You Take First?

Not every offer is equal — and not every “no” is a loss. Here’s how Gen Z should choose between full-time, internship, and contract without panicking.
You’ll see three labels on Jobseco and every other board: Full-time, Internship, Contract. People treat them like status symbols. They’re just different trade-offs.
Full-time is stability + benefits + deeper ownership. Harder to get as a fresher. Worth chasing if you want a long runway at one company.
Internship is learning + network + a foot in the door. Pay may be lower. The real value is converting to full-time or stacking proof for your next apply.
Contract / freelance-style roles pay for delivery, not loyalty. Good for cash and skills. Riskier for visas, loans, and “where do you work?” conversations with family.
Tip: Ask one question before you accept: “Will this make my next application easier?” If yes, take it. If no, keep looking.
So which should you take first? If you have zero experience: take the internship that teaches the stack you want. If you have projects + one internship: push for full-time. If you need money now and have a clear skill: a short contract can bridge the gap.
Don’t reject an internship because a classmate got full-time. Careers aren’t a race on LinkedIn.
Do reject roles that ask you to pay for training, stay unpaid forever with no learning, or call you a “consultant” while controlling your hours like an employee with none of the protections.
Filter by job type on Jobseco, then pick based on your next 6 months — not someone else’s highlight reel.
