Recruiters don’t read every line. They scan. Here’s what gets your fresher resume opened — and what makes them swipe past in under six seconds.
Six seconds. That’s roughly how long a recruiter spends on your resume before deciding whether you’re worth a second look.
Not because they’re cruel. Because they have 400 applications and a hiring manager waiting.
If you’re a fresher in 2026, the old template — Objective Statement, 12-line “skills” list, college project buried at the bottom — is working against you.
Here’s what they actually skip: long paragraphs about your “passion for learning.” Soft-skill fluff with no proof. Every club you joined in first year. A photo that eats half the page.
Tip: Print your resume, set a 6-second timer, and glance. Whatever you remember is what a recruiter will remember. Fix everything else.
Here’s what they stop for: a clear role target in the first line. Skills that match the JD. One project with a measurable outcome. Internships, even short ones. Links that work (GitHub, portfolio, LinkedIn).
Lead with proof, not personality. “Built a React dashboard used by 40 classmates for attendance” beats “Hardworking team player seeking growth.”
Keep it to one page. Use a clean layout. Put education + skills near the top if you don’t have much work experience — that’s normal for freshers, and recruiters know it.
And stop sending the same resume to every company. Change the top skills and project order so the first six seconds scream “this person fits this role.”
